Keeping the Faith Golf Tournament: local headlines

The Dublin Villager picked up a press release about the golf tournament in my friend’s honor (written by the talented and intelligent Sara Vertuca) and published a great piece on the story behind the event.

An excerpt:

“Since my diagnosis, I have wanted to use my situation to raise awareness, as well as dollars for the cause. Now, with the help of others, I am able to make these goals possible,” Valentine said. “People continue to ask, ‘What can I do to help?’ These two events present unique opportunities for folks to contribute both time and dollars towards helping an excellent cause.”

Valentine was diagnosed with stage 2-B Hodgkin’s disease in February and began chemotherapy treatment this month.

“After my diagnosis, my lifelong friend, Ryan Prestel, decided to organize a charity golf outing and dinner to benefit a charity of my choice,” Valentine said. “Now, with the help of additional friends and community members, we are looking to run a successful event for years to come.”

The charity event will feature a golf outing, dinner and a silent auction. Participants may choose to play in the tournament and dinner or attend the dinner only. Sponsors still are needed for the event. Businesses, organizations or individuals may sponsor a single hole, the front nine or the back nine.
