Stop thinking

Here’s what you need to do.

I’m going to make a bet and say that there lots of things you’ve thought about doing or want to do some time in your life — traveling here, meeting that person, doing these things…

You’ve probably thought about them often (and how cool it would be to maybe do those things)…

Stop thinking!

Start doing it.  Do something that puts you in that direction every day, week or month.  You don’t have to do it all at once…do it in tiny bits even.

If it’s a trip you want to take, plan the trip. Pick a date when you’re going.  Stick to it.

If it’s a business you want to start, build a prototype.  Show it around.  Sell it.  If you fail, try again.

If it’s someone you want to meet, start talking to them.  Be yourself.  Have fun.  If nothing happens, then at least you tried (or you’re socially awkward).

If there’s someone you care about and want to express how you feel, then DO IT.  Don’t waste time.  If it doesn’t work out, then you tried.  And you won’t be wondering “what would have happened if…”

I apologize for the ambiguity and randomness of this post.

It’s partly inspired by life events, and partly inspired by Ramit Sethi’s “It never gets easier than now” — although I’m not as eloquent or inspiring as his article at this time of writing.

Decisions

“If you can’t make the decision within one day, then you can’t make the decision.”

This is tasty

Beat more-established competitors with deeper pockets.

If people are crying over guys with deeper pockets knocking on their doors (e.g. just google the “Wal-mart sucks” topics), it’s not that they’re losing because they have less money. They’re losing because they suck.

That is, they can’t find innovative solutions to overcome their lack of funds. They lack ingenuity. If the bootstrapping Japanese clobbered the rich Americans in the 80s with minimal funding, you — as the cheesiest motivational tip goes — can do it too.

The rest is beautiful.  Read it over at trizle’s business journal.

You have to make a decision now

Pretend you have to make a decision now from the choices below. What would you do?

  • A cool consulting job with a great culture, an office with a window, a great campus, good benefits, highly competitive pay and people your age.  Free laptop, covered moving expenses, interest-free loan for a personal computer, contributions to a gym membership. Relocation to a cold Midwestern state. Lots of travel.  High probability of a quick promotion.
  • You run your own business.  You pick your hours, work out of your apartment, get paid on a good salary, get free money to run the business for a trial period, and make contacts with incredibly smart and connected people.  Hours are probably very long but you love what you do.  Expenses for travel and some housing is covered.  If you work smart and hard enough, you could make truckloads of money.
If you could do either, what would you do?

What’s your ideal work situation?

Who’s using a Sidekick 3?

I’m thinking about switching from a Palm Tungsten C and LG cell phone to a Sidekick 3.

If you’re reading and have a Sidekick 2 or 3 — what’s it like? How’s T-Mobile service? Is it worth the $$$?
